Three Big Ten teams have been selected to compete in the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships this weekend. Big Ten Champion Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin will participate in this year's team event which will take place May 30 - June 1. Michigan's first varsity eight received an at-large bid as one of the eight-women boats that will compete. The Championships will be hosted by the University of California Berkeley at Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif.

Michigan State won the 2008 Big Ten Rowing Championship on Saturday with a final team total of 150 points. The Spartans took home first place finishes in the first varsity eight as well as both varsity four grand finals to claim the overall championship. Wisconsin finished second (114 points), edging Ohio State by two points.

Matt Weise was figuratively and literally at home during the 1992-93 school year. Having just graduated from Michigan State with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in mathematics, the Grosse Ile, Mich., native returned home for an ideal job of teaching ninth grade physical science. But after just one year as a high school teacher, Weise missed college, and most importantly, missed rowing. So he opted to return to East Lansing with a formula for success.

She is the last to mention that not only is she the lone All-American in program history, but she has captured that honor twice in as many years.
